Ditch the Plastic! Nontoxic Dishes for Children

My favorite nontoxic cups, plates and more for your favorite littles. There are SO many reasons to avoid plastic. Environmental reasons are definitely a motivating factor for us, but my primary concern is the safety of what my child is eating from. Most of us are familiar with the concerns regarding BPA now - acting as endocrine disruptors in your child, primarily with a concern for synthetic estrogens. A few years ago there was a new wave of BPA-free plastics introduced. Unfortunately we now know that these may be even more harmful than the BPA products! Yikes. This is especially worrisome for little girls. What's a mama to do?!

In general, stainless steel, glass, and food-grade silicone are all good options. Here are some of our favorite nontoxic dishes for children:

Brinware makes these great tempered glass plates with a silicone backing that provides a nonslip surface and removes for washing. Adorable!!

They also make these super cute silicone placemats. We have the blue and green ones, tree and sea friends.

This stainless steel set from Untangled Living is what we primarily use at home for our daughter.

Stainless steel, no liner bottles from Klean Kanteen. When buying stainless water bottles, check to make sure there is no liner! Unfortunately some of them still have one, and they are made from BPA. I like these because the tops are interchangeable. You can move from a sippy top to a sport top or just a removable top if your child prefers as they grow.

ECOlunchbox Three-in-One Stainless Steel Food Container Set

We love our Planetbox!. Lots of fun magnets to personalize one for your child (magnets included, you choose design).

We are done with these now, but I loved these Lifefactory glass baby bottles.

Super cute reusable bamboo utensils for kids that are perfect for parks and the beach.

Here is a great article by Dr. Aviva Romm about avoiding early puberty for your child and how choosing nontoxic materials plays such a big role.
